Overview

The Torpoint Ferry Service is operated by the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee on behalf of Cornwall Council and Plymouth City Council. The Service operates 24/7, 365 days a year, linking Plymouth with South East Cornwall, utilising up to 3 Chain Ferries at peak times. The Ferries have been in service since 2004/5 and each ferry carries a maximum of 73 vehicles. The vessels require dry docking every 5 years to enable the classification society (Lloyds Register) to complete mandatory surveys and for the Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA) to complete inspections, both of which provide assurance of Vessel safety and material state.
