Overview

The interconnect facility at RAL currently operates three primary aluminum wedge-bonding machines. Two, Hesse BondJet 820 automatic wedge bonders and a Hesse BondJet 855. The 855 is the updated version of the 820 which is no longer available. The two 820 machines are currently dedicated to the ATLAS strip tracker module and stave assembly programme whilst the 855 is used for a range of other projects. We are looking to minimise risks to the ATLAS project and lab deliverables by increasing the wirebonding capacity available for the ATLAS project by purchasing a third machine
