Highways England commission annual structural condition surveys of the strategic road network using the TRASS (Traffic Speed Structural Surveys) contract. These surveys have enabled Highways England to reduce the need for slow speed structural assessment. Highways England is to procure a next generation Structural Assessment Tool at Traffic Speed (SATTS) device to assist in the research and development of traffic speed structural surveys, to ultimately remove the requirement for slow speed surveys of structural condition.
