Overview
Since 2012 the Met Office has been generating wind observations from Mode-S EHS and ADS-B messages collected by our own network of receivers spread across the United Kingdom. This data has been demonstrated to have a positive impact when assimilated into our numerical weather prediction model for the UK. It measurably improves our ability to predict the weather over the UK. We are now looking to gather data from a significantly larger area for assimilation into our global numerical weather prediction models.
