The Department for Transport has recently consulted on what rules are required to allow scooters to be trialled safely. They are a popular form of transport in many cities around the world, but currently it is illegal to use them on public roads and pavements in the UK. To support a 'green' restart of local travel and help mitigate reduced public transport capacity, the Combined Authority along with the Department for Transport is fast tracking trials of rental e-scooters. E-scooters offer the potential for fast, clean inexpensive travel that can also help ease the burden on transport networks and allow for social distancing.
