<b><i> </i></b>The Health and Social Care Act 2012 brought about the transfer of the health improvement function of public health and elements of the health protection and public healthcare function from Primary Care Trusts to top tier local authorities on April 1st 2013. At the same time the Act gives each local authority a statutory duty to take such steps as it considers appropriate to improve the health of the people in its area.
