Airwave forms part of the UK's Critical National Communications Infrastructure and enables emergency services to communicate via secure methods. Increasing our Airwave infrastructure using Airwave Direct will expand our ability to communicate with other emergency services during incidents on the coast and inland. In recent times the Coastguard has committed to support Flood Rescue, Inland search, and Mutual Aid provision. Because of this increase in responsibility, we now must expand our Airwave capability for full time officers to enable them to conduct their strategic role and pro-actively share information with other emergency services.
