The Avenue Reed Bed

The site lies within the boundary of the former Avenue Coking Works, which has historically been used as a colliery, lime and ironworks and most recently a coke and chemical works. The coking works closed in 1992 and the land - including the Site - has been subject to a voluntary remediation scheme, commissioned by the Homes and Communities Agency. Remediation of the wider Avenue land parcel commenced in 2009 and is now largely complete.
