It is situated towards the southeastern perimeter of the internationally important Fenn's, Whixall, Bettisfield, Wem and Cadney Mosses Site of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I.), in the Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve (N.N.R.).
