The NHS Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Screening Programme https://www.gov.uk/topic/population-screening-programmes/sickle-cell-thalassaemia was set up in 2001 to implement antenatal screening for sickle cell and thalassaemia and newborn screening for sickle cell disease.
