Statistical analysis of anonymised linked data (approved by HQIP and supplied by HSCIC) which is being used to investigate a possible link between cardiovascular disease (specifically heart failure and death) and metal on metal hip joint replacements. This is a pressing and necessary study being undertaken under MHRA sponsorship and commissioned by NHS England on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health in the interests of patient safety.
