The Council has committed to the electrification of its waste collection and street cleansing fleet to support the ambition of achieving a net zero city by 2040. Mandela Way depot has been acquired by the Council and will be transformed into a waste collection depot with electric vehicle charging infrastructure for over 40 electric refuse collection vehicles. Works are anticipated to start in June 2026 and complete by November 2026.
