There is strong evidence that thrombectomy significantly reduces the severity of disability caused by an ischaemic stroke. Modelling suggests that up to 10% of patients with stroke may be appropriate for treatment with thrombectomy and current levels across the NHS are low - around 2.2% of patients with stroke receive thrombectomy.
