Bats and their roosts are protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and Regulation 41 of the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017. The legislation places obligations on both individuals and public bodies that are aimed at ensuring that the conservation status of bats is maintained.
