B417 & B418 were constructed in 1998 to accommodate TSE infected cattle. The buildings have deteriorated to varying degrees and, despite some temporary remedial works, are no longer complaint with legislation. Refurbishment is required in order to bring them up to a standard to house large animal studies, for ACDP2 and/or GMO2, at the appropriate containment level. The constraints on the buildings concern their ability to accommodate studies using certain pathogens rather than their ability to house cattle.
